Hockey and pizza have always held special places in the heart of the New Haven community. Ralph Walker Rink has stood just walking distance from some of New Haven's most iconic Apizza restaurants since it was first constructed in the 1960's.

After joining a couple word-of-mouth pick up hockey skates in the late winter of 2021 at Ralph Walker Rink, AJ Gemmell and AJ Massaro had an idea to create an organized alternative to public pick up skates or organized adult leagues. In the fall of 2022, when skater numbers were slowly diminishing at the local Sunday morning pick up skate, the idea was born to create something new.

After sitting down for some New Haven Apizza with local New Haven hockey legend & Co-Founder of the New Haven Athletic Club, Mark DeCola, the idea for Sunday Sauce Hockey was born. Sunday Sauce would be more than just a pick up hockey skate, it would be a community of like-minded adults across Connecticut that shared a passion and love for the game of hockey. It would be a casual and fun way to meet new people, get some exercise and remain in the game of hockey without the extra time commitment of a competitive adult league. Sunday Sauce would be a way that new people could find the game of hockey, current players could get some extra ice time and new memories could be made with friends and family through the game of hockey.

Welcome to the Sunday Sauce community. We hope you enjoy getting out on the ice and meeting new people just as much as we do!
